Switzerland Small but Beautiful!
Switzerland sets the standard in the international life science community with the highest healthcare spending per capita in Europe (US$6,798 in 2008). It also has the most competitive economy in Europe, the highest overall quality of living in the world, a favourable tax environment and access to a highly motivated, international workforce. It is little wonder that Switzerland maintains its leading position in the global pharmaceutical and biotech industries. It is also little wonder that PiR Group has set its sights on this fascinating and beautiful country.
Significantly, last year several Swiss biotech products were licensed in various markets around the world and the biotech sector managed to attract some major injections of risk capital amidst a tough global economic setting. According to Ernst & Young, the continuing success of Swiss biotech companies can be put down to the high quality of the training provided in Switzerland. Being a knowledge-based technology of the future, the fate of the Biotech sector hinges on having highly qualified staff who are willing to work hard.
